Cinco de Mayo: Dietitian approved margaritas & snacks
The fact that Cinco de Mayo falls on TACO TUESDAY is every foodies dream. Check out my favorite recipes for Cinco de Mayo including Turkey chili, guac, nachos and two dietitian approved margarita recipes. Links are provided and also some of my extra tips and tricks to save even more calories on your alcoholic beverages and save those extra calories for food!
1.My turkey chili 🌶 + avocado recipe
To Make: mix two tablespoons of olive oil, 1 lb of lean ground turkey, and one medium (diced) onion to a sauce pot. As you let those ingredients simmer, chop up 1-2 colored peppers of choice and add. Stir occasionally until meat starts to cook and onions turn translucent. Next, add salt, pepper, cumin, garlic, chili powder to taste. Then: mix in 1 large can of diced tomatoes (28 ounces), 2 cups water or chicken broth, and 1 can of tomato paste. Let simmer, then add your beans and corn (I used black beans and kidney beans).
2.Sheet Pan Sweet Potato Nachos by Real Simple. I am all about a one pan meal that is healthy, delicious, AND an easy clean up.

4.St. Germain Margarita by Well Plated. St. Germain is an elderflower liqueur. It’s one of my favorite additives to any drink because of its unique, refreshing flavor. Warning: this drink is very strong. I usually cut the alcohol ingredients in half (My drinks: 1 ounce of tequila and 1 ounces of St. Germain). Then, I add stevia and lime juice to taste if you need to sweeten it up or add some extra tartness.

5.Skinny Classic Margarita by Lively Table. I really enjoy tart margaritas, so I usually don’t use the added agave syrup because it’s still technically added sugar and it’s a little too sweet for me. I would rather save those calories for my actually dinner to fill up on protein. Instead, I use stevia to taste if needed to sweeten up some extra tart lime juice. But for the most part, I usually do without any simple syrups, agave, honey, etc.
